Gym leader designs, and even though I do not like Dynamaxing I was really happy to see every major character get a G form ace.

I was shockingly disappointed with most of the soundtrack. That is the ONE THING I thought they would nail since they always have, but it's just not that good. Did Masuda only touch the Gym Leader theme or something? Because even if I dislike his decisions as a producer in later games, his music is usually ace.

It felt too easy. I pretty much beat all the gym leaders with only the Pokémon I caught in the beginning of the game.

Most characters are made well.
The actual battling is fun.
Pokemon variety is great.
Difficulty is pretty balanced if you avoid EXP candies.
Raids can be a fun challenge.
Pretty much all of the dlc is good.

Music is the only thing Masuda does really well, Idk why he doesn't step down and just keep doing music. It's clearly what he enjoys and he hasn't been good for the franchise in any other role.

That's it. That's not much and most of the praise I have for it always has a "but" following it. Nothing to do with the moment-to-moment gameplay, story, map design, etc. is actually good. Ballonlea would've been great if it wasn't so small and empty. The QoL changes would be better if they actually addressed and fixed the issues of the mechanics rather than drip-feeding us small or inconsequential band-aid "solutions".

The only thing I can even say is that it finally opened my eyes to just how slimy gamefreak is. I didn't buy the game, first time for a main line pokemon release, so I can't actually comment on what it did right IN GAME, but out of game, yeah, it was a nice wake up call.

This anon has some good points, except DLC. DLC won't fix the issues the main game has and like the anon said ots preety fucking expensive for what they are, if both costed 5-10 bucks then maybe but 30 is far too much.

The exp curve is getting close to what I think is ideal, although I think its still way too easy to find yourself overleveled by simply battling every trainer and catching all the pokemon available on a route. Being able to switch out party members while traveling is a great change, the removal of HMs was another great change although I do wish there was some kind of replacement mechanism that makes dungeons/puzzles possible without tying it to actual moves. Every pokecenter having a move deleter/tutor is also great. Theres tons of great QOL improvements that make going back to old games feel really miserable.

Pokemon Camp is cute. Kind of boring and not much to do, but I do like playing with my mons.
Overworld encounters are cool, but they need polishing. Even LGPE did better with that, they actually showed Shiny mons in the overworld.
Isle of Armor is actually kind of good.
Pokemon Box Link saves time in grabbing a Pokemon from the PC.

Gym leader battles, but only that. And not even the battles themselves, but it just makes it feel as epic as it probably is supposed to be. If only they were any levels of challenge as well instead of an absolute breeze

The only good thing it made is the pokemon camp. it's fun to see pokemon interacting with each other. Nessa and Piers were also great designs.

This game does everything right besides the over world design, being a bunch of hallways and scarcely made branching paths, as well as cities that aren’t even full explorable. The Wild Area is the worst case being a giant flat plain with no real diversity or different biomes besides the desert. The DLC fixed this with Isle of Armor and Crown Tundra, but then you have to think if they were capable of doing that, which are far larger than the Wild Area, then why weren’t they capable of that from the beginning? Oh and the story is awful.

You can’t tell me anything else is wrong with these games though. If they would’ve spent more time making a fully fledged overworld and not 6 months on grass then these would have been the perfect Pokémon games no questions asked.
