Good HG/SS teams around Chickorita as a starter? I started an 'any Johto starter' shiny hunt a couple of nights ago and got him within 37 soft resets.

Congrats on the shiny. Honestly, any team member you want. No main line Pokemon game is too hard that you can't just use whatever you want. For Water/Fire/Grass core I suggest something like Kingler/ Poliwath/Slowbrow/Gyarados/Starmie and Arcanine/Ninetales/Magmar/Rapidash.

Underrated piece of it advice: give Meganium utility moves and/or physical moves, special Meganium is a fucking meme.

Razor Leaf (for the crit, could also just use a special move for Grass because Petal Blizzard is two Gens late)/Iron Tail/Earthquake/Body Slam are the move

Gotcha, I was trying to save some TMs in plat that I thought would be helpful including energy ball. And use the leftovers I found on victory road for extra bulk. Was torn on giving it all physical moves or eventually Body Slam/EnergyBall/Toxic/Synthesis?

Honestly anything that’s primarily utility or physical is fine, it’s only attempts at pure special that meme out a bit. Recovery/Status/Special STAB/Physical Move is a good kit, but I’d recommend Earthquake if you can spare it because it gets Steels and Poisons out of Meganium’s hair. Iron Tail is also good for Ices, but is less necessary.

I'm only at the second badge (grinded Bayleaf a lot to be overleveled when I don't have many options) so I have a bit of time to decide before switching Earthquake out with Poisonpowder... this is my first time using chickorita but I also know johto is not kind to it lol
