yes, its the kino way to go in gen 1 and 2
then gen 3 to 5 is using 3 main mons
and gen 6+ is using a team of 6 bros

I do always even my 5-6 mon team levels, with max 2 or 3 level gaps at worst, even back when I was a mere kid.
Can't enjoy games anymore after getting used to EVS and IVs and egg moves but at the same time genned mons kill all the fun and make runs soulless after trying one myself, still not as soulless as Gen 8 at least. The Pokemon magic and charm is fading.

I think overlevelling a shitmon is something only a very young kid or a retard would do, the kind of people who identify themselves in Pokemon Origins.

That's how I played when I was 8. I would literally just solo the entire Elite 4 with like a level 75 Charizard. Even Emerald I remember shreking Liz&Tate with a level 50 treeko and like a level 10 poochyana
Didn't start using a team until I was like 14 desu

I used to until gen III. In gen I the only times my team was about the same level as my starter was when I used the item duplication glitch and in gen II I would always beat the E4 with Typhlosion and Ampharos until they were level 100.

I never really thought about how Leaffag would play Pokemon because he absolutely seemed like the time to not even play the game and coom to Leaf or something, but he plays exactly how I expected him to!

I think the best way is a team of about 3 or 4, if you go for 6 there is way too much grinding involved and it usually isn't necessary

I did this when I was a kid for the first three generations. I would only use my starter the entire game then fill out the team with whatever legendaries you get at the end of the game. In Diamond I finally realised using a full team made the game much more interesting and now I'm at the point where I have to autisically keep all six of my Pokemon within 1-2 levels of each other.

It's, unfortunately, the best way to play. Once you're strong and fast enough to go first and consistently one shot anything the game goes fast and smooth. If your party is at or around the level of enemies then you need to worry about things like type match ups or not being able to run from battle.

That's how most childrens' first playthrough is probably but anybody who plays a game more than once is going to want to play with different pokemon and that's eventually going to evolve into picking different mons for different roles and eventually using mons for coverage and shit

In the first couple games I did. If your starter is reliable, and you don’t know battle tactics that well, then you become reliant on them, and then they level up and become more reliable, until there’s no escape.

I think it's like a horseshoe theory situation where retards do it naturally, smart guys wonder and test it out and like it, everyone else assumes it's a bad idea and has a balanced party.

I have done it once or twice. It works, speciually if you aren't dumb and put the bet moves on the one you use. Just put the hm ones in other pokemon. You generally stomp everybody. Use the hm slaves to take hits while you pump heals on your high level if it gets rekt, but it will rarely happen.

Game Freak needs to do a better job punishing people who only use their starter, and nothing else. Maybe apply the traded Pokemon not obeying to all Pokemon?

The not obeying rule applying universally could lead to a softlock. If you have no money, or items, or pokeballs and all your pokemon are too high leveled then you can't win any battles or earn any money or catch any pokemon.

They already do a decent amount, with at least one major story battle involving a starter that is SE against yours and xp share existing and stuff. When it comes down to it the only realistic changes they can make would be just making the games harder in general regardless of playstyle.

That's how I always did it growing up, Red through Sapphire. It wasn't until I got Sapphire again for my birthday (somehow lost my original cart without even knowing) that I tried making a team where more than just my starter got the spotlight and I realized how fun it could be. It's also the first full game I played as the female trainer and the second time I didn't name myself "Ash."

That being said, I don't think I ever felt as attached to a pokemon as I did to my Typhlosion from Gold. I leveled it up further than had ever legitimately trained a pokemon before (86, I think) and really felt like it was my badass partner pokemon. Still sad that I can't find the cart.

I did it as a kid in Diamond because I hated losing and just wanted a power trip. Got super assblasted at Cynthia's Milotic Mirror Coating my Level 87 Empoleon or whatever.
I did a lot of runs later, especially in FRLG, with two- or three-man teams, like starter + eeveelution + legendary bird. I guess I slowly grew out of it in search of a challenge.
As long as it remains the quickest, most efficient way to plow through the games, kids will do it.
