It could have been cool, I guess. But honestly, they kind of did follow the pattern already, just without completing the type triangles. Inteleon is at the very least Androgynous looking, Rillaboom is pretty manly, and Cinderace looks pretty cocky though not exactly edgy.

Seriously. Even as I was typing I was thinking that even the best male drummers are on the lankier side. Rillaboom is more Donkey Kong than drummer, but I guess it drives home that he's Monkey if you think about Donkey Kong.

This was never the pattern. Gen 6 is RPG classes, Gen 7 is beauty/brains/brawn, and Gen 8 is Freud’s psychic trio. They do a new pattern every gen.

It’s just a common trio archetype, really. The temperamental passionate side (Id), the logical side with a sense of duty (superego), and the judicious harmonizer (ego). It’s a really easy way to make a trio of characters or friends, and GF described the Galar starters as being akin to three friends growing up. According to the developers them selves, the Snivy line is the cool one. The dynamic for Gen 5 was "cool" (Snivy), "serious/den mother" (Oshawott) and "funny/sidekick" (Tepig).
