Dedenne is based on the French toothfairy which is a mouse

Pyroar is based somewhat on lions as they appeared in heraldry, and lions used to be native to Europe before we kinda killed them all in those Roman colosseum battles and such

Dedenne collects and stores electricity from other people's homes, and stealing shit is a common trait among traditional fairies.
It's not really a reference to La petite souris, but it burrows elements from it. So instead of taking teeth, it's electricity.

Pretty sure the fossils are supposed to resemble a King and Queen respectively, since Kalos is supposed to be a 'fancy' region.
Oh and Florges' design is inspired by rococo fashion from the 17th century, while it's flowery mane resembles the pouf hairstyle that rich ladies wore. Aegislash is literally based on the legend of Durendal, Sylveon is a pastel French flag, Noivern is a gargoyle from French churches, etc etc.
