Cyrus just wants a new world built from the ground up while Lysandre just wants to reform the existing one. Lysandre's more closer to Chairman Rose than Cyrus because Cyrus isn't a rich man wanting to create a world of prosperity. He rejects their ideas of prosperity and wants a world where thinking like that is outdated because he holds no value for conventional thought.

Cyrus at least has some character. I think a lot of people miss that he’s supposed to be a counterpart to Cynthia. They’re both stoic, strong battlers with an interest in finding out more about Sinnoh’s mythology. One of them just goes a little too far with it. This sounds kinda lame but it’s worth mentioning.

The thing is people are disposable to Cyrus, they're a means to an end but he doesn't care if he has followers or not because those attachments are probably fitting of the idea of spirit. What matters most is his new world at any cost.

Lysandre actually wants to keep some people around even though he himself calls out the idea of winners and losers. Selection isn't beneath him and it's more of a point for him to put idealists such as Sycamore and the protagonists on the hot seat to see if they can truly prove him wrong without contradiction in their own actions.

It looks similar at a glance but the point is Cyrus' goal doesn't even need a society if it has to come down to that. Just the right to exist. Simple as.

Lysandre on the other hand is an attempt at a character with actual goals and proper motivations but all these motivations are completely contradicted with the actual actions he takes in the story, alongside a lot of his reasoning being absolutely retarded.
Both are shit antagonists, ones completely one dimensional and the other has embarrassingly terrible writing attached to it. I think ultimately I prefer Cyrus purely because I don't have to sit through the game trying very hard to convince me to take him seriously.

Factually incorrect, Cyrus has a backstory but you have to talk to a specific NPC to get it. TL;DR he's a literal autist who can't understand people or feelings at all and decided the world would be better off if people didn't have emotions and were basically biological machines.

In a way, he's right. Emotions bring about endless, completely needless conflict and without them there would be much, much less of it in the world. But it brings into question whether life is even worth living at that point--After all, emotions allow us to recognize goodness when we experience it.

Lysandre is an interesting villain, but of a different type entirely. He represents more a political ideology, and rather than raising any kind of hypothetical question to the player, it's glaringly obvious that his ideals are flawed. Not just because the end goal is genocide, but because the people he chose to populate his post-apocalyptic vision are all the very kinds of people he wanted to rid the world of.

I think what that anon means is that unlike every other villain, Cyrus didn't learn any lesson, have any change of heart, or become incapacitated in any form to stop him from trying it again. He knows what he needs to do, how to do it, and all the variables that could possibly get in his way meaning given enough time and will he could definitely do it all over again.

And if/when he does, we'll be none the wiser. Because we'll never know the difference. It's a more complicated kind of terror, the terror of becoming something else entirely with no choice in the matter.

Lysandre? He's a descendant of the king and has enough riches to found his own corporation that was supposed to help the poor but becomes disillusioned after the helped start to rely on aid and become mooches. Seeing this, he commits the same crime his ancestor did with AZ acting as a foil character that learned his lesson and comes to terms with this at the end of the game after Lysandre actually gets far enough to fire the weapon and have a tragic death.

If anything we're shown the exact opposite. It's massive, they needed to cause a blackout to power it, and they still had to hunt the XY legendaries for more power. Plus the original creator had to sacrifice a lot of life for it. The red chain just needs 3 gems from the lack trio in comparison.
