Alolans are based on Hawaiians who are Polynesians.
Polynesians don't look like anime characters they trend towards having faces like pic related.
But many of them are heavily mixed, particularly with white people, and those ones can present without the features like wide flat noses so they look closer to Alolans like Mallow.
The whole thing I was talking about was looking up pictures of real girls to try and see one that approximates an irl version of Mallow.
