>>46192345It's not just Unova. Any region following Sinnoh seems artificial because it's just ticking boxes "volcano area? Check. Ice area? Check. Forest? Check. City? Check. Desert? Check"
I mean what kind of country has such a diverse ecosystem? All the other pre-gen 5 regions feel like a cohesive system. Sure you can still find some odd areas here and there but they're usually remote corners of the region and never juxtaposed with one another. The other regions have coherent theming
>KantoIndustrial shithole with a suburban countryside, appropriately signified by the abundance of poison types, multiple big cities, rural interconnecting routes and ecological disasters such as Pokémon Mansion. Sevii Islands serve as a nice contrast to Kanto which is why the islands have such an odd and otherworldly atmosphere.
>JohtoRural region with an emphasis on culture and tradition just now beginning its industrialization, signified by the construction of the radio tower and magnet train and Kurt's new Pokeballs, but otherwise surrounded by farmland, mountain and traditional architecture. In close connection with Kanto, even the new dex reflects this as Johto Pokémon have subtle designs and are hard to find
>HoennTropical island region surrounded by ocean, heavy emphasis on water routes and exotic Pokemon designs. Easily the most clear and consistent region
>SinnohCold, mountanous region signified by the large focus on ice routes and the structure of the narrative being focused around Mt. Coronet. Pokémon designs reflect the region's aesthetic as they all look very bulky appropriately designed for the cold
The other regions are a thematic mess
