This, they did an extremely good job with all the IoA tutors balance wise. Flip Turn isn't on anything like Urshifu, Fini, Araquanid, or Pex that would be cancerous. The 60 BP was also a good acknowledgement of the fact that Water is simply a better type than Electric and especially Bug.
The mons that benefitted the most were probably Swampert and Vaporeon, decent walls but also ones that have been fading into obscurity for a while. Barraskewda and Basculin can abuse it excellently on the offensive side but are by no means menaces with it.

I feel like there have to be multiple people in charge of designing and balancing this stuff. There's no the same guy who bobs and weaves around water U turn not being broken like this also shits out skitter smack and gives terrain pulse to two mons.

Now that we are on the topic of balance, what if every type had three weaknesses, three resistances, one immunity, and was damaged normally by every other type? Also, every type is super effective on only three types, resisted by only three types, and ineffective on only one type.

Bug, a terrible offensive type, has been given mostly moves with heavy utility for the past few gens-

U-Turn, Struggle Bug, Sticky Webs, Lunge, buffed Leech Life, Fell Stinger, First Impression, etc.

They're not all winners, but some people consider U-Turn to be one of the best moves in the game for singles.

My theory is that the datamine was fake and released intentionally so they could see the complaints online and change it accordingly.
I can't remember exactly what differences there were, but I definitely remember the Tapus getting the terrain moves in the datamine.

I know you're just shitposting, but this is what makes Flip Turn more balanced than U-Turn.
At least Flip Turn can be blocked. Meanwhile, U-Turn always lets the user switch, even if it's 4x resisted.

Same for Volt Switch, and even more easily there. Instead of a specific ability it just requires you to run one of the overall best types. I think U-Turn would take quite the hit if it was Normal type. Why is a hit-and-run "Bug" anyway?

The Japanese name of the move means something like "round trip" but part of the name sounds like the Japanese word for dragonfly.

U-Turn should've been any type that has something immune to it.

I think getting closer to this would be a good goal, but there’s nothing wrong with a little variety. Types like Steel having more resistances for example could still be fine if they went back to the drawback of less offensive coverage

I like the idea, makes sense. I was really confused why U-turn was a Bug move but apparently it's a turn of phrase in Jp. "Dragonfly trip" or something that means going somewhere and almost immediately returning to where you came from. They use this for round-trip travel, like Airlines, Delivery, or really quick visits before heading back.

Dragonflies do have that flight pattern of just moving back and forth so it checks out.

As a battle mechanic Water type was a top contender for this seeing as in competitive swimming you do laps and they call it a Flip Turn or something similar. So it checks out there too.
