-Normalfags cannot think outside of current trends. They dislike anything that isn't safe/familiar in their entertainment. Result: mainstream media became an endless loop of the same old shit with just different paintings.
Any "change" ends up being just a current trend being dumbed down. This process is repeated more and more until you end up with enforced baby mode games like Sword & Shield.
No one is willing to play dangerously anymore, outside of a few really niche communities which often survive this cultural decadence because they have an inherent source of gatekeeping.
