I haven't played VGC since October because I got suck into watching football/sports shows in my free time. And now that football season is over I feel empty so maybe I should try getting back into the game. What's good right now?

Ho-Oh player and honestly the uptick in intimidate users from maybe 1 per team to always 1-2 per team has been a bigger annoyance than any one specific mon/team archetype, even Kyogre. I want to lead Ho-Oh but it's just not worth vs bringing it in the back when ppl always lead incin/lando. At least lando isn't a lame as fuck mon like parting shot incin tho I guess.

I ran James Baek's rental Ho Oh team for a few days and as fun as it was I have to agree. Honestly slapping 1 anti-intimidater (Competitive, Defiant, Mirror Armor) and 1 intimidate ignorer (Inner Focus, Oblivious, etc) is often enough to get the point across for them to not to want to bring an intimidator.

Calyrex-Glastrier with Trick Room is really fun. I won most of my games last night when I was using it. Also Regieleki absolutely NUKES Kyogre with Rising Voltage + Tapu Koko leading.

VGC 14 was only that off the wall because people had already settled on what they thought would be best early on, and never did a full exploration of all the options available to them. You ended up with a bunch of weirdo teams making it to the finals and nobody knowing what their schtick was or how to deal with it.

Regieleki everwhere. Regigigas fairly common. Regirock was getting talked up a lot early on but usage seems low. I saw Registeel once acting as some weird screens support. I saw Regidrago once and it was trying to meme with Dragon Dance. No Regice.

Regirock was a solid Trick Room sweeper with weakness policy, ass vest, or a curse set. Comfey was the prime partner with it to do most of these strats.
Registeel acts very similarly to doubles Corvaknight, Iron Head> Body Press shenannigans without a weakness to electric.

I honestly think this season came close multiple times due to the shifts. A lot of off-the-wall picks seeing success near the very top of the ladder like Luray and Decidueye, and it helps that the top dogs were constantly shifting every other season. The fact that Zacian, Kyogre, and the Calyrex forms are nowhere near as overbearing as people though they would be, with actual well defined counter strategies, and several other legends rising up to the plate like Dusk Mane Necrozma and Dialga, makes me hopeful that this can be another diverse season despite the drastically raised power level
