Near waterfall for me. Something really cozy to my young brain, imagining my character resting there with his Pokémon to the sound of the water outside.

In ORAS I had my base in the outdoor area of Rustturf Tunnel. It was pretty cool since it's visible, but only accessible with Rock Smash, so it felt like a real hidden base.

My last secret base. Back in the day I would look for the biggest ones, often tree houses or shrubs, often somewhere near the Weather institute. I haven't played any of the mainline games past 4 but I don't think anyone ever tried to expand upon them, which is kind of sad.
