It's basically the same as any pre Gen VII anime, with the exception instead of the newbie trainer and idiot-savant battler being one person, it's now two due to Ash actually sacking up last season with no extraneous travelling companions.

PWC is mostly one minute 1v1 battles or Ash climbing ranks offscreen. Ash only use Pikachu and Lucario most the time, Dracovish haven't been on screen since it's debut episode (5-6 episodes ago). Every single retuning character so far have been a disappointed because of the episodic nature of this season, they can only appear for one episode which means they appearance are not as good as they use to be in previous seasons, 1 well-done returning character > 10 rushed retuning characters

Anon, we've never seen a Scyther evolve in the anime and all we know is it needs an Iron Coat. Goh's Scyther was clearly wearing a suit of armor.
