>>46216570Because it's fucking awful. Ash, who was already dense, becomes exceptionally retarded to the point of forgetting basic type matchups. Brock, a mainstay in the series beforehand, is replaced by discount green Brock whose entire personality can be summed up as "makes food and food puns". Iris is incredibly annoying, childish and hypocritical, and provides nothing of worth as a companion. The rivals aren't engaging and feel forced in, and every other character is often annoying, stupid, or a fatal combination of both. The animation is mediocre, the writing is laughably bad, the battles aren't fun to watch, the season is nearly all filler, the pacing is fucked, climatic episodes aren't good and the original plan for an overarching plot about the evil team was destroyed because of a kneejerk reaction to the 2011 Japanese earthquake. And all of this becomes worse in light of the fact that it came right after DP, which was widely considered one of the best seasons. I'd go as far to say that the BW anime's poor showing is a major factor in the hate for Gen 5, and that the XY anime was perhaps loved so much simply for not being BW.
tl;dr
The BW anime can best be summed up in its beginning and ending moments: Ash and Pikachu, Sinnoh League semifinalists, losing to a fresh Snivy just given to someone who's never battled before in the first episode to force a rivalry; and Ash losing the Unova League to a total idiot who originally didn't know 8 badges were required to enter the League, who orginally thought that the Unova League would take place in Johto, and who brought 5 Pokemon to Ash's 6 in their final battle due to thinking full battles were 5v5.
