That was the biggest let down with USUM. I liked SM's story so I was hopeful USUM would be sequels but instead it's just a worst version of SM's story.

Also in the modern age DLC is better since there's no reason to release a full priced game for a glorified update patch but Gamefreak should have included a New Game+ rebalanced set up similar to a third title. It's something BOTW did with it's DLC so it's not like they couldn't have, they just didn't.

If you're talking about BWs Pokédex approach, yes it was fresh but it was also plenty to only do it for one game.

A sequel really needed something fresh distribution-wise. It was nice for BW but having the older Pokemon again helped make B2W2 feel distinct from the first game.

What is the difference between a third version and an alternate version? USUM is exactly like

I like to wait for the third version to come out and just play the "complete experience" when its all settled, I don't like the idea of paying for DLC that should've been in the base game for free. I've dumped about 80 hours in SWSH WITH the DLC just trying to fill out the regional dex(minus region exclusives that I genned). The weird thing is that the base game had less than 30 hours of content while costing 60, and a majority of the content got released almost a full year later for another $30. As someone that waited until the full DLC dropped before even considering buying the game, I can't imagine how shitty it would've felt to pay $60 on release and realize you basically did everything in the game after 35 hours.

Except this was a very common practice for Japanese games. It's just the US didn't get many of them. They only fell out of practice because DLC became a thing and now Pokemon is on an actual console where DLC is considered the norm so it's finally caught up to the pack.

Having two versions is okay I guess as it encourages trading and you can choose which boxart legendary you like better, but having a third version with only minor differences or using a third version to fix the base games is really scummy. They need to go the mario route and just make like one really polished complete set of games every generation and be done. Maybe a remake or something to spice it up (if the original versions really need an update.) DLC is bullshit at its core. Theyve been doing this since the beginning by making mythicals nearly impossible to obtain or if youre playing a game years after literally impossible. Like I want to use jirachi in emerald, why should that be impossible unless I have the bonus disc from a game released 15 years ago and a GameCube. Theyre going to keep pushing this and see how far they can take it. They are trying to put the least amount of effort and get the most amount of profit. It shows and always has.
