In Gen 3 your dad is a gym leader

In Gen 4 your dad is either deceased or divorced as Johanna speaks of him in past tense

In BW Gen 5, your dad is out on a Pokémon journey

In Gen 6 Sycamore tries to be your dad after your mom ran your dad over while racing

In Gen 7 your dad stayed in Kanto working overseas which is why your mom lives so carefree
