>>46226367Pivot moves in general are busted, ESPECIALLY Teleport and U-turn, and especially when Hazards can be negated so easily.
Pivot moves gives you an inherent advantage of removing most of the risk from the mechanic of Switch.
With Volt Switch and Flip Turn, there are at least options to stop them due to Water Absorb and Ground types, but U-turn doesn’t have a complete stop like its alternate versions via typing.
With Teleport, you can stop it by simply taunting the opponent, but you can’t taunt while switching in.
The problem occurs because in most situations, you can switch in something extremely deadly at nearly no risk, while your opponent can constantly be pressured to always switch into a Pokemon that might survive.
As an example, let’s say Player A has Toxapex out and Player B has Cinderace.
For the Player A, they have to predict if Player B will switch (and who they’ll switch into) or attack. For Player B, however, does not have to account for Player A’s actions as much.
If they stay in, you only have to predict if they will use 4 of the moves Toxapex has.
If they switch, you don’t have to predict anything, as you simply send out the appropriate Pokemon. In both cases, you also just get free chip damage as well from the U-turn alone, more often lots of damage racking in as you have the momentum advantage.
Teleport is similar, but you don’t have to predict at all what so ever, and you can have a bulky Pokemon like Blissey or Slowbro tank the hit for your dangerous teammates.
