>>46232384>Defined content, yes.Because people like having explicit goals with tangible rewards. A good example is the battle frontier, you have the silver and the gold medals given to you for completely clearing all the challenges the BF have to offer, not to mention BP which can be exchanged for good items and TMs. Same thing with contests and what have you.
People's issue with recent Pokemon games is that the games cost more money than the past games, but have less defined content. People generally don't consider multiplayer stuff "defined" content because there's no endgoal. Plus that kind of thing is available in just about every Pokemon game, which is why saying "SWSH doesn't have less content that past games--you can breed and battle!" is a weak defense. You can breed and battle in XY or SM too and those games are $40 and still have the full dex.
The problem with trying to equate made up challenge modes with content is that
1. you can do that in literally any Pokemon game, I can load up Gold right now and do a bug only run or whatever.
2. They hold no actual weight or consequences, i.e I can just choose to ignore a Nuzlocke death whereas I can't ignore losing my streak in the Battle Tower
The "obsession" with content is born from the fact that in previous games we would have totally new areas to explore with our Pokemon with new challenges and new Pokemon to catch after beating the Elite 4, but now the most we'll get is a 2 hour batch of cutscenes and maybe 5 or 6 high level trainers to battle with the rest being locked behind paid DLC.
If people are paying more, they expect more given to them. Asking for more money, but still expecting the player to do most of the legwork when it comes to making content is a scam by definition.
