>>46235899I'm normally not a huge Hip-Hop/Rap fan because it was for the most part a pretty stagnant and too traditional of a genre. Since the emphasis tended to be on the vocals, most Hip-Hop seemed to just treat the beats as a repetitive upon which to lay verses instead of a symbiotic spouse of the vocals, and unfortunately, some of the most inventive acts, like Divine Styler, Organized Konfusion among others were kept out of the spotlight. I love beatmaking, but i think MF Doom was actually one of the few that got it right. Where most MCs would find a great beat and let it loop for 5 minutes while rapping over it until it honestly wore down, Doom would find great beats and just let them play out exactly for the amount they needed and would end his songs RIGHT BEFORE the loops would start to become repetitive, making most of his songs be 2 Minutes on average. That being said, i feel like Hip-Hop is still waiting to hit its apex and with something REALLY big, technical AND with fantastic lyricism, like an album full of songs as incredible as Uneven Compromise. The reason why i love The Cold Vein is because it has the best production i've heard in a Hip-Hop record, with a mix that somehow sounds Shoegazey, but at the same time hard hitting, while also delivering fantastic lines. Fortunately there seems to be a small surge of more Jazz influences in mainstream Hip-Hop/Rap recently, which can only help improve the Genre. I think we'll get a lot of Hip-Hop masterpieces soon.
