I don't know if I qualify as a genwunner since gen 2 is my favorite, but I honestly do believe that gen 3 was the turning point. As a kid I was obsessed with Pokemon, had every version from Red through Crystal, multiple GameBoys to trade with myself, the cards, the chapter books, the board game, etc. Then when they showed Ruby/Sapphire, and announced that you couldn't transfer your Pokemon from previous gens, that's when I stopped giving a fuck. I had invested so much time into my Pokemon, playing through multiple games with them, battling with them in Stadium, etc., and then gen 3 comes along and wipes the slate clean. It felt like a spit in the face. Not to mention that they took out things I loved from gen 2, like a day/night cycle and sprite animations. I gave Diamond a shot but found it pretty mediocre, and the same for X. I probably don't really belong on this board since my history with the franchise has been so touch and go since gen 2, but just figured I'd offer my boomer perspective. Gen 3 was really a turning point.
