Honestly even SwSh encounters are random to a degree even though it's overworld. Wanted a Drakloak the other day but it had a low encounter rate so I had to keep walking away from the grass, forcing the pokemon to despawn and then respawn until finally Drakloak showed up. Not too different from just running through grass. Even if you ignore that, the grass still has those exclamation mark encounters which are sometimes different from what the overworld pokemon are, so random encounters actually are in SwSh.
It's funny how many of yawnfag's baits collapse when you actually play the game.

God, fuck games that have high random encounter rates. You should have three options for controlling random encounter rates: Stealth, Normal and Hunting. In stealth mode you have a smaller chance of random encounters, in normal mode the encounter rate is normal, and in hunting mode you find encounters more often. Meanwhile the hold items you can give to Pokemon to influence encounter rates don't do anything.
