I thought the names are based after secondary themes, like how red and green became firered and leafgreen because fire and grass starters; ruby and sapphire are omega ruby and alpha sapphire because of the symbols on groudon and kyogre
ho-oh tends to be associated with pure-hearted Trainers, idk about lugia and the soul
