How about we get no regional bird/rodent/pikaclone/bug for Gen 9 and instead use those dex slots on something else? Unless the region is going for total exclusivity like BW, then those slots can be filled by the countless regional fillermons we have already

As long as the birds are distinct enough from each other I don't see why you wouldn't want a new one. I like that these fill various niches. Pidgeot looks cool, Noctowl has the pseudo-psychic gimmick and special defense, corviknight is broken, talonflame has a very rare type combo, toucannon has multiple fun and viable sets for the campaign, same for swellow. I think they do a pretty good job with the birds. The rodents are another story, those don't really feel interesting or worthwhile most the time.

I love bird Pokemon a lot so I'd be pretty sad about that. Willing to forgo the rodent/dog/4-legged creature instead.
Toucannon is my favorite Pokemon outside of Venusaur and I really like most of the others.

Bibarel and that rabbit were what I want to see in rodents. Keep the normal 5yoe but add a secondary. So long as no more Dark/Normals which two other rodents even to have now too I'm good.

The birds I hope they keep giving uncommon typings. Talonflame and Corviknight were great variety. Hopefully electric/flying next?

Yes. Pokemon like Linoone and Bibarel completely replace Raticate as "common normal type shitmon littered everywhere in the region" while Sentret doesn't.

Yes. Pichu is the """pikaclone""" of Gen 2 and even then it only exists because it's tied to a new mechanic rather than being there just because like newer pikaclones are.

No it isn't. The reason Pokemon are made is so they can be found in different ways and the gameplay can be rewarding. "Pikachu but Fairy type" doesn't add to this in any way.

The only reason why early birdmons existed was for the purpose of HM Fly, but now that HMs are gone, they should focus more on making quality avian monsters than generic birds. They're on the right path with Corviknight, tho.
