How many focus blasts did you attempt?
You could've done anywhere between 0 and 1440. Even more if you had leppa berries on every mon.

I think you gain more rank from winning than you lose from losing, and you might get lucky and win the first couple of matches against opponents better than you.
Losing confidence as you keep losing games might also have an effect on your performance.
