Why was the HGSS version of the music so bad? Even the biking theme (which was based on Goldenrod's song) sounded fine, but not the actual Goldenrod song? Plus the GB Sounds version sounds off so it's a lose-lose thing.

while this is a pretty cool remake with the gen 2 palette i don't think it would've been feasible to fit two regions' worth of assets this quality + what we already had onto a single gb/c cart

Thank you. I like these images, but they feel a lot more claustrophobic & over saturated compared to what they are based on. Ilex Forest looks more like a path than dense forest.

Ilex Forest and Route 34 had to be shrunken down to properly fit in the map, since Ilex was originally a pocket dimension.
The whole redraw project is almost done. Just waiting on one last person.

not in gen2, tho
sprite mapping and sprite coloring per bit like that is impossible in gameboy and gameboy color systems, not to mention that it's a gameboy game for backwards compatibility unlike gameboy color exclusive games that could be shown as comparison

I was talking about the GB Sounds version of Goldenrod, it sounds off compared to the actual GBC version. The sad part is that that's one of the better GB Sounds recreations since the others sound even worse (I'm looking at you Saffron).

Also, the HGSS Goldenrod theme is such a letdown compared to the original. The tempo is off.

It will never happen but they really need to offer a 2D "mainline" sprite game instead of the awful 3D they've been attempting for a decade now. Maybe a return to 2D could reinvigorate them.
