>>46272976Decomp really has done wonders to romhacking. Gen 4 is starting to get more ambitious with hacking, gen 2 has been putting out quality hacks for a few years now, and gen 3 which was previously saturated mostly with garbage is finally now putting out actual good content on a decent regular basis instead of the one in a million miracle like Gaia.
Even fangames now are stepping their game up with shit like Xenoverse and other promising projects presumably close to completion (I'm in a couple of discords groups of nearly finished basically secret Essentials projects, but I can't spill anything yet)
Red++ is gonna add Johto and an entire storyline to its next update in the next 2 years as soon as Polished Crystal comes out with its next update. Coral, Orange, BW2 and plenty of other GBC hacks are using the Polished Crystal engine as a basis for their work. Now with the GBA decomps, projects like the Emerald overhaul are giving Hoenn the remaster it always deserved. No doubt a similar project for Firered is also in the works. DS games weren't in much need of revamping since they already looked good but no doubt enhanced regional dex hacks and entirely new region hacks will now be made.
In the next 5 years we're likely gonna have the definitive version of every single gen 1-4 game plus multiple other original games that put Gamefreak's current shit to shame. Exciting times, lads.
