That's Alola cope that started when they got assmad the Kanto remakes didn't get Z-Moves.
Mega Evolution is literally them getting overloaded with energy. Of course it's drastic, you need to keep in mind Megas didn't have dex entries at all in Gen 6.

I still think that this is the most pointless thing they did just for getting rid of mega evolutions and replace it with the most dumbed-down and most gimmicky dynamax, I mean do they realized that mega evolutions are a fan favourite?

While Pinsir is incredibly happy to have gained wings and Ampharos just... Recovers from baldness while getting dragon powers. Mega Evos are weird when it comes to either putting a Pokemon in excruciating pain during and after transformation or being a harmless “super form”.
