Because they made a type intended to counter rare pokemon common as fuck and made it counter dark and fighting as well for no reason.

How to fix it? Make it weak to normal.

Was unnecessary from the get-go and is rather half-baked in my opinion. Should not have been added but definitely needed to get taken back to the drawing board for adjustments and reevaluation of its purpose and worth.

Resisting Fighting makes sense balance wise with how common it is offensively and fluff wise by magical beings not really caring about your punches and kicks. Resisting Bug though, that's the real baffling call. If anything Bug should have been SE against Fairy, it never sees use outside of STAB anyways.

The Dragon thing was absolutely needed just for balance purposes however. Only one type resisted it, it was an amazing attacking type as a result, and it was amazing defensively by only having one really common weakness.

Fighting was by far the best offensive type in Gen 5 next to Dragon you nigger, and Dark type ended up needing the pre-emptive nerf due to the absurd grants they've been getting since Gen 6 like Knock Off buff and immunity to Prankster. None of Fairy's advantages are the problem, it's problems lie in the nonsensical and limited weaknesses and resistances it had, namely resisting Bug, nerfing an already mediocre to bad type, and only being weak to two of the worst offensive types in the game in Poison and Steel (likely in an attempt to make them better offensively, but that didn't pan out)

Why don't we actually rework types so they are all work has a triangle for each group instead of just a shit ton of nonsensical garbage?

Grass->Water->Fire
Rock->Flying->Fighting
Dark->Ghost->Psychic
Electric->Ice->Ground
Steel->Dragon->Fairy
Normal->Poison->Bug

immunities solely come from abilities

Fairy type pokemon have the indirect advantage of Steel and Poison type DAMAGE moves being uncommon even though people generally like Poison and Steel types.

Aegislash and Gengar are good examples where the typings work but you aren't gonna see Iron Head/Sludge Wave on them all the time.

I think "Normal" shouldn't have any resistances or weaknesses or such. Because a normal type is normal.
Maaaaybe you can keep the tradition to make ghost immune to normal and vice versa. But even that is obsolete.

I always thought it was weird flavor-wise that ghost was immune to normal and fighting but still get hit by flying.

I'm sure it's for balance reasons but there's nothing super natural about being a bird and pecking someone on the head.
