It did. The board was healthy, the speculation was ripe, GameFreak didn't rely on gimmicks that would be dropped a game later, and people were looking forward to the next games for once.

What does Yellow even add besides
1: Like 3 easy Jesse&James fights
2: A Pikachu that can't evolve.
3: A surfing minigame you can't even play without Stadium that offers no rewards.
4: A way to get Machamp without a link-cable.
5: The 3 starters without trading.
Only 4 and 5 are nice to have and far from worth buying a new game for.

What? Kalos is the last game to have it. Linearity started with Platinum in particular and the actual shift in gameplay didn't happen until SM.

Gen 4 and 5 had routes you could explore, I'm not talking about linearity. Yes the games were linear but the routes themselves still had variation and different paths you could take. Gen 6 was the beginning of the end for that, routes and gameplay were all very basic and exploration was limited.

I was going to give them a list, but it's bait anon. You can show them the entire half of Kalos that's optional to explore but it doesn't matter because Alolasomes do the same thing with the handful of areas Alola and Galar have to say they're "also part of the classic games."
Everyone knows the gameplay progression in Gen 6 was the same as Gen 5. To a fault, even. But it's still way better off than the newer regions.
