we see souls and energy and shit being fused into stones, megastones, firestones, etc.
Pokemon is a pretty advanced society with teleportation and infinite energy, they just gear their advancements around the pokemon, it stands to reason they may have the technology to infuse items/weapons with artificial typings.
This explains the odd pokeball that exist too, why would dive ball work better on water type pokemon? perhaps because it's infused with grass/electric type energy.
