I think the desaturation is a bad thing, generally speaking, but there's some Pokemon whose colorings differ in between the anime, official art, and games (even between different games) so some of these color changes like Metagross and Bronzong are making them more in line with the official art.
They really gotta fix the orange Poke Ball icon in the item bag, though. I get the orange is a big highlight but it's fucking huge and just makes the whole thing look orange.
