Crits? Just play smartly around them, don't leave a mon that can potentially die to one in.
Secondary status? Heal it or account for it beforehand.
Confusion/paralysis/sleep nonsense? Either heal it or swap the mon out.
Got a bad encounter? Pretty much no such thing in the main games, or you'll get more than enough good encounters besides.
Anything else? You can dodge the vast majority of trainers in games usually if for some reason you're losing mons to them, you can look up boss movesets and strategize accordingly. If you're smart, you'll also have prior knowledge to watch out for specific pitfalls (i.e., the Horn Drill Goldeen trainer in Platinum or the Thunder Manectric trainer in Emerald).
