They were special in Gen 3 and maybe HGSS and thats it. DP added all the shit that made them easier to get
If a shiny is supposed to be an incredibly rare thing whats the point when they become a 1 in 200 thing.
I think full odds 1 in 8000 shinies are special still

Only full odds shinies are valuable in my eyes, but that's probably because I'm a full odds hunter. A 8192 shiny is way more valuable to me than a 500 shiny, because I can get the 500 shiny via several methods in an hour whereas it usually takes a day or two to find a 8192 shiny. But that's just me, if you enjoy mothod hunting then good for you. Value is in the eye of the beholder.

I've never particularly cared about the rarity of shinies, for me the value has always been in how they look. Good-looking shinies never lose their value, even if they're given away to everyone, but shitty shinies will never be valuable even if you spend 3 weeks hunting them.

Found my Gold cartridge the other week. Found a shiny Zubat in the cave between first and second gym. Was running around burned tower and found a shiny Koffing. So many shinies in those games suck but I’m pretty happy with PINK GUY and BOY BLUE.

For 20 dollars and an R4Gold I turned my 3DS into a CFW machine that can produce completely legitimate shinies whenever I want through IPS patching. Literally real shinies any time I want, and the gen 5 games on the R4Gold allow me to use action replay to get legitimate wild shiny Pokemon.
