This except for Piers, at least his team actually has more to them (with them actually having a somewhat competent movepool and abilities) than all but the ace being just useless cannon fodder with garbage movepool and abilities and relying on the Dynamax ace to do anything like how the other Galar gym teams were designed.

Not him, but im guessing its because he looks cool as fuck, has a cool as fuck ace with one of the very few actually cool looking Gmaxes in the game, in-universe hes supposed to be this wall that many challengers fail to pass and claimed to be stronger than Nessa, a water type gym leader, yet his battle is really underwhelming

It's not helped by the fact that Gamefreak keeps making a fucking defensively shit type like Ice into slow tanks. They don't want tanks, they can't fucking do it. What they want is a speedy attacker like Weavile or something.
