The more I think on it, the more I realize I don't actually like any of the rivals desu. They're all lame or annoying or both. The final boss being some loser you already beat 7 times is not particularly gripping.

Thats being a shit battler who thinks they are smart for doing that. Getting your shit kicked in by a hurt foe just means that you are even shittier than someone who doesn't try dirty tricks which just makes Blue a weak jackass who finally got his shit together in the final battle.

Cause they gave Red all the starter mons, likely because they didn’t want to retroactively decide that the player canonically took any one of the starters in Red or Blue so they went with Yellow being “canon” so to speak. It’s basically a gameplay choice.
I’m curious, which starter would you give him if you were the developer of GSC? one of the Eeveelutions? Or would you rearrange Red’s team to give Blue one of the starters?

That still means that Blue abandoned his Eevee starter, as he doesn't use it. Also his GSC team is is RB team minus the starter and with whatever mon would have been the starters type
Pidgeot, Alakazam, Rhydon, Arcanine, Exeggutor, Gyarados + starter (and dead Raticate rip) were his RB mons, that is his GSC team.
His yellow mons are Sandslash, Alakazam, Exeggutor, Magneton, Cloyster, Ninetales, + Eevee (and dead Rattata rip)

Considering they gave Espeon to Red to represent the Eevee free gift, they should have done the same with Blue but made him evolve it into Umbreon. I don't know who to replace however, as his Gen I non-starter team is pretty solid (from a typing design perspective).

Useless and not in the originals, therefore not canon.

He goes down in history as being the champion who held that title for the shortest amount of time. A speedrunner. And now a washed up gym leader.
