why is gen 5 such a huge step down in the franchise especially compared to the immersive elements of platinum and hgss it's like they stripped out all the progress they were making

idk, but the trend continued from then on. Also interesting to note that the games have been getting worse in quality since they stopped using Japan as the basis for which the regions were based on.

idk, I liked dream world,
I don't remember much of bw, but I don't think I hated it. Never will understand why they took out walking with pokemon though, like c'mon, that should have been a staple of the games forever post HGSS.
