If they were really catering to compfags then we would have had the same level of care and effort put into making it less of a grind that Gen 6 had.
Pokemon is a jack-of-all-trades, master of none, series. PikaVee was for literal toddlers and it ended up being more open-ended than SwSh. They could have easily doubled down and made it linear like Alola and Galar were supposedly for children, but they didn't.

What does the competitive scene existing have to do with the single player?

I feel like, this is exactly why there was so much cut in SWSH. They aren’t trying to cater to the Players. They’re catering to the Competitive scene where they can Market their products, sell them at events, and get revenue from their games to pocket for themselves.

Kind of surprised they just have ‘t redone a TCG game like they had for Gameboy (Color?)

Yes they’re still catering to their regular everyday consumer, because at the end of the day the Competitive scene is only a small part. But to TPCI, it’s a cash money market.

Why else is the whole McDonalds Cards so popular? Collectors perhaps have more interest, sure, but again Pokemon is going after the markets, and catering too, what they see they can get money out of.

So they removed ‘unbalanced’ moves like Hidden Power, and bloat in the form of Pokémon not used in Competitive scene.

Will a competitive player be playing the game for graphics? No, so just use the one online battle stadium. The entire Isle of Armor is based on cheaper items for EV training, for goodness sakes, and they gave us a broken Mythical to try and balance Dynamax/Gigantimax for online.

You can add all that stuff for easier team building, to most comp players it is not enough unless you can build up a pokemon to your specifications in a few seconds.

I was assuming they were responding to my point about IoA. So, catering to Competitive, because the average ten year old isn’t going to care what these items do to their Pokémon, unless they play Competitive.

So a Company is just supposed to release an instant gratification machine? They don’t *really* care about what players really want, they want players to care about what they’re releasing and how they are doing it, so people can *feel* like they’re getting what they want. So they can then consume the next game they put out.

So if the competitive players are buying their games to play in VGC, or whatever it is, the trick is to try and make them think they’re catering to them, while bringing as much revenue in as possible.

I stopped playing competitively because it got boring seeing the same handful of Pokemon over and over again.

It's frustrating that there's almost 900 Pokemon, and even if you ignore the purposely overpowered ones, most of them are either useless or outclassed.

They can just make a new battle system and completely overhaul it. I don't know what it would look like since I'm not creative. Perhaps, it would even move away from being turn based completely. As it stands today, there's basically no reason to use Gen 1 and Gen 2 Pokemon since their BST and move pools were never balanced in mind with today's standards. And lets be honest, nostalgia is where the real money is. If I was TPC, I'd consider it.

This. XY was a great starting point for them. Having EV Training built into the main menu with Super Training was a huge step forward, and it was complimented by a great online infrastructure. Improved VS Recorder with additional storage space. Gameplay loop with the Battle Chateau or the 3v3 Battle Restaurants for power-levelling was actually a fun pastime.

The Ohmori era has been all over the place. It's easier now to get the right EVs and Natures, but the online infrastructure is complete garbage compared to Masuda's games.
