Pokémon was never hard though, in fact even the previous point about Blue can be easily unga bunga'd with a couple of strong Pokémon

from my experience, it goes like this, if you try to just get your six favorites andor available mon with very little flexibility, you can and will encounter "difficult" fights occasionally when your get a poor match up on something high lvl/bst.
If you just treat the game as a puzzle, most of the well known fights became quite simple and, imo, somewhat elegantly designed for a game targeted at children; other examples could be trade onyx and machamp from gen2.

Proximity means nothing. The game gives you a solution to a gym you dont even have to battle right then. you can blast the entire region open before you ever have to fight Surge.

Do you also get mad that the pokemon tower is one town over from Sabrina? How about that the safari zone, with it's plethora of answers to Koga, is directly inside Fuchsia city? Or how about Blaine being on a FUCKING ISLAND SURROUNDED BY WATER TYPES

Abject retard nitpicking one of the few aspects of Kanto that aren't retarded.

I'd say the Unova games aren't really that hard. Every gym has hard counters directly adjacent to the city the gym is located in.
>Gym 1: monkey for free from route next door
>Gym 2: routes nearby LITTERED with fighting types, not to mention you for sure have a super-effective type due to how monkey + starter works
>Gym 3: fire + rock types in the desert to the north
>Gym 4: desert directly beforehand ensures ground-type mons
>Gym 5: shitload of grass/water types available on either side of the city
>Gym 6: a fucking electricity cave on one side and an ice adventure on the other
>Gym 7: next to twist mountain, rock types galore
>Gym 8: next to ice route + dragon tower
There's a reason the N challenge is so viable in Unova. All the routes by the gym have exactly what you need to beat the gym.
But God forbid that diglett cave (AKA hole of soul) exists next to the ELECTRIC GYM. For fucks sake, the Kanto ree-ing is getting old.

Plat actually surprised me. I did a trash runthrough with mons I didn't normally use and I got walled HARD at the E4. Had to make a whole new team, and even then it was pretty brutal due to the steep level curve. It's one of the few times I've actually felt achievement beating the E4, like I'd actually finished a large task each time I took out one of their Aces. Peak gameplay, I see why Plat is shilled.

You underestimate how many people don't explore or read dialogue, even with game mechanics as simple as Pokemon. As a kid I still vividly remember catching a Dugtrio in that cave with the great ball you get from the SS Anne, but I can't tell you how many people I know (even as young adults) that never entered that cave much less went all the way to the end and got the Flash HM.

People mostly remember struggling through Mt. Moon and Rock Tunnel, and not grinding enough for certain gym leaders, not to mention most Gen 1 movesets weren't great
