Can someone explain to me what the fuck is up with Psychic type?

I know it's meant to represent shit like mental abilities and telekinesis and shit, but why does it also represent things relating to space and light? I know at this point 'light' and cosmofags are a joke but legitimately what the fuck is up with Psychic, no other type barring Normal seems to have this much of an identity crisis.
