I always wonder at what point they would have hit their Sonic moment and rubberbanded everything to the Japanese style. Because the game still would have been a hit with those redesigns despite what people think, but at some point they wouldn't have been able to redo everything.

I can't help but think of the logistics of such a plan. Not only would the games require a major graphics overhauled, either the anime would have to be seriously repainted over or a new show would have to be made from scratch.
