Used to do the same with Shiny Pokémon i found in Gen 3. Filled the Pokedex in gen 4 and 5 real quick doing that.

I just used a flashcart and a save editor, personally.
The one thing I definitely don't miss about the older gens was limited use TMs. Fuck having to treat certain moves like they're precious gems and never actually using them because you don't want to make the mistake of "wasting it"

i would only use masterballs on stationary legends, and would use synchronize to get correct nature. masterballs make the catching and SRing more tolerable
its how i got a shiny black rayquaza, SRing for nature. it was on original GBA with no backlight, when i looked down i was like waaaaiiitt a minute
