Can anyone justify why they actually dumbed down the art style for the remakes? Pokemon was never a chibi game, why change it now? Are they going for a younger audience than the originals?

Thats simply because of graphical limitations of the consoles. As you can see the sprites got larger and larger as the series moved systems and progressed.

Now for whatever reason they're going BACK and making shit more cutesy and more childish. Why?

Because a large number of pokefags still complain about the new artstyle and many more would likely be vocal about a remake being done that way due to their nostalgia. And practically speaking the fullscale models would likely necessitate compromises to the environment that would make it less faithful to the level designs of the original.

Either way, today's pokemon fans will complain about literally anything and everything while gobbling it down without hesitation anyway.

There are new 10 year olds everyday, Pokemon has to continue to reach out to a younger people to grow their audience. They don't really care if old fans will buy d/p remakes because it's not their market. That's why they made pokemon legends to market to older fans who have been with the series and want to see it grow.

Having said that, it's easier to cater to a audience that say "this is so cute, Mom can you buy this for me? Pllllleeeeaaassseee???" Over 30 yr olds being like "Shit graphics, no 60 fps, battle animations don't connect, no megas wtf? Welp another shit game bros."

It's the sad truth but getting new fans is more profitable
