Gold and Silver were the last games with soul, since they were originally meant to be the last game in the series so they threw everything they had into it. Ever since then they've just been making lazy cashgrabs.

I'd say it peaked in Platinum, Gen 5 is a small step down but still great, XY were a bit of a drop but still pretty good and would have been better if they used them as a baseline for 3DS, but jumping from XY to S&M would break your body on impact
