Honestly, the remakes have all been decent so far, but in two different ways:
1. Remakes made for technical convenience (disconnect between platforms):
FRLG
- existed to bridge the 3rd and 1st gen gap. Then for emerald they threw a ton of gen 2 pokemon in there.
Remakes that served as both remakes of and evolutions of their base games:
HGSS
ORAS
- featured original games’ storylines but with new environments and current gen technology and QoL improvements
I think ORAS is the best remake, but the battle frontier thing was absolutely dirty filthy of them. Not enough to makes me hate it, but I can understand why others hold a grudge.
