Also, US/UM are strictly better versions of S/M. /vp/ hates them because they’re what S/M should have been on launch—which is true—but it doesn’t change the fact that they’re strictly better.

I never played them, I just wasn't in a pokemon phase when they dropped. I kinda got the urge around SwSh's release but they looked so bad it killed it for me.

For reference I think late DS (HGSS/BW) was the best era of pokemon games as a whole, while gens 1 and 3 have the best mon designs. gen 6 was kinda trash

Will I like SM?

I play all the pokemon games and I can say pokemon Sun and moon were good games but pretty different compared to the rest of the games in the main franchise, at least in sun and moon were a lot of effort to make the game feel special like the story for example, sun and moon are weird pokemon main franchise games but they are pretty good, I Like the games but I can understand why some people dont like them

I hated gen 6 but liked SM. It has a bit of a challenge and the region is decent (though not up to par with Sinnoh or Unova)

Unironically this but people won't start saying it until the generation of kids/teens who played it are present enough to argue it's quality. The same thing happened with BW/BW2. Everyone shat on it for years until the zoomers got older and could chime in on social media about how much they enjoyed them.

They had flaws, but you could tell GF still gave somewhat of a shit. It would've been nice to see the ideas fleshed out and built upon in later games but nope. We'll never get that.

This and I think it's going to be even stronger for SM because 2016 was a huge year for Pokemon.

This line works way better in reverse. Good ideas, GF did give a shit about their ideas, and yet they're completely blind to player quality of life.
Switching from a mostly adventure game to a mostly story game is not something you should do if you don't let the player skip cutscenes, that makes for a massive pain in the ass.
