Look into Switch LAN Play. It's essentially a homebrew implementation of local multiplayer, but it works over the internet.

I was going to but a new Switch to play VCG in the remakes, after seeing this I'll just stay pirate.

jokes aside, im not gonna hack my switch until the next nintendo console is out. being unable to play online and get the latest updates is too big a tradeoff (unless you happen to have 2 switches)

being unable to play online fucking sucks. I have a hacked Switch, but went and bought another one. Yes, there are ways you can downgrade your firmware and revert to OFW without being detected, but it is too much of a hassle. I use my legit Switch for Mario Kart and SwSh max raids.

I've heard of people being able to use legit multiplayer through EmuNAND (might be called EmuMMC nowadays but that might be something else entirely). Basically, you have a copy of the system firmware on an SD card and you play pirate games there, and your actual system is clean and Switch Online is usable there. Unfortunately this means you need to buy legit copies of the games you want to use for normal online.

I only bought an Animal Crossing switch because it looked cool, I used homebrew and didn't disable internet on my old switch, and my old switch was gettin kinda crummy anyways.

Figured I might get banned eventually on it so I sent all my games and saves to my new switch and hacked my old one. Very situational.

Outside of pirated games, it's a nice emulator machine, especially since it can be used both portably and docked. I've also watched a couple movies on it through the browser, which is bafflingly locked behind homebrew. You can also get Linux running on it if you want to use it as a tablet for whatever reason.

It's really easier. There are even apps with GUI so you don't have to touch a command line. I made all my normie friends install it and we play this, Mario Kart and other shit. It's nice :)
