The reason OR/AS did it was, in my opinion, because of time constraints, just like X/Y got butchered. After all, I'm sure ILCA isn't simultaneously developing three games at once like GF likes to do.
The Battle Frontier is a slippery slope, though. Wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if it were cut again.
