I guess you have a point, it's not like there's another grass starter that could fit in LA so they had to use Rowlet. It's still a shame not only because Greninja is chad, but also because we already had Rowlet in SwSh, the trio should have been Snivy, Cyndaquill and Froakie, or maybe Bulbasaur replacing Snivy

Typhlosion's japanese name is バクフーン bakufūn (from explosion or 爆風 bakufū), sounds similar to shogunate or 幕府 bakufu. Typhlosion is also the Volcano Pokémon so you could say it represents Japan's most recognizable landscape, Mt. Fuji (a volcano)

Greninja is based on a fictional Hollywood ninja that wears all-dark clothing that would realistically stand out at night, actual Japanese ninjas wore regular clothes so no one would notice them as they wouldn't be noteworthy at all. Think more modern infiltrated spy and less Naruto.

The reason why Froakie isn't there is because it is probably the professor's ace, keep in mind that he is tied with proto-galactic since the MCs bear the "G" logo and they work for the professor who will probably end up being the main villian.
