It’s such a good question. I think where consumerism meets vapidity in a person lacking imagination remakes seem desirable and necessary. HGSS was fairly relevant as a new game because the Johto pokemon were otherwise unobtainable in that or the last gen; plus they were beautifuly made and offered at that point the quintessential pokemon experience. These new games seem pretty good honestly but I have no idea why somebody who liked Platinum doesn’t just replay it or simply let it lie in the past. I personally have been playing the same Emerald file for the last five years, rematching trainers with underleveled shitmons and just hanging out growing berries and enjoying the little places. Japanese people understand this latitude for challenge and variety in Pokemon but the vast majority of players seem unaware that you can meaningfull adjust your experience of the same game as desired, infinitely. SwSh actually enhanced this latitude by providing a convenient box system that didn’t heal your pokemon. The high-level wild pokemon made it easy to train well more than six pokemon in a more even distribution of exp; so, gym challenges were more challenging. I’m intrigued by legends arceus but if it sucks I won’t buy it and it won’t matter; there are enough pokemon and enough pokemon games. Although I like the new pokemon more every generation it doesn’t really matter to my happiness if the game doesn’t deliver because I have channeled my enthusiasm for the series into making sprites and rom hacking with a view to creating a pokemon game that never ends. But you can sort of enjoy that already, in pokemon platinum, with a little thought — that’s all.
