Depends how bad you want the card. It will undeniably go down as the hype in Pokemon dwindles. But by the time it's much cheaper you may have already moved on to other things. If you're buying one card you might be out 70$ had you wait which isn't much in the grand scheme but if you're buying 20+ cards it's gonna hurt.

Hey /vp/, longtime /biz/reali here, let's say I had a card collection of about 2,200 pokeymans (mostly base set, but nothing newer than E-reader sets) organized in binder sleeves and I couldn't be assed to get them PSA rated but they are 99.5% in unplayed condition (near-mint through excellent, I guess?). What would be the best way for me to unload all this shit at once for a decent chunk of change without having to go through piecemeal single card sales? Do people actually buy old collections whole on e-Bay?

ebay is your best bet, but to make maximum profit you would need to sell them as singles, or in small groups. Either way it's going to require you to look up prices and to know what they should go for.

I could easily see you losing money if you don't take proper photos and did it by selling a whole binder.

On top of what others have said, you'll never get the actual value selling them all at once. The only reason anyone buys entire binders is to get a good deal. They're either working on their own collection and willing to take some duplicates along with the stuff they actually want, or in it to flip them and make a profit doing the work you don't want to bother with. I've never met anyone who just hoards every card they can get for the hell of it.
You'll get a lot more for them doing it piecemeal, but if you're set on unloading them all at once just add up prices for the holos and forget about the rest.

Yeah, I figured piecing them out and springing/waiting for a rating from PSA would maximize profits, but I am not interested in this being a multi-month project, so figured I'd look up the approximate values of the cards and let it go for about half that to someone else who's willing to do the legwork for a nice profit margin of their own.

Its going to be a pain but you will have to research a lot of cards individually i guess you can ignore cards in your collection that are not holo,1st edition etc but that might carry some risk of you losing money.

it was like 30-50 per card through services like ludkins, but PSA has raised their prices due to the pandemic and ludkins isn't even doing the service anymore. the faster you want it graded the more it costs, i think you can do walk-ins to get it that day for 500$ . PSA/Beckett are more expensive and CGC is cheapest option like <10 per card

This has an effect on the raw market too. Bulk sets a floor on card prices and raw sellers will likely adjust their prices as graded cards go up as raw mint values trend with graded mint values. Obviously this only matters with cards you'd bother grading like a tag team alt art and not some 5ban non-promo V card.

It certainly does fall in line with what I've noticed, though - almost any JP card seems to be up around English counterpart prices (when they exist) despite the fact that they have always been in lesser demand. Vending seems similarly affected despite nobody caring about it not long ago. Did some jewtuber hype them up too or something?

A good example is anything from shiny star v. Almost everything from the set in japan is selling for 1-2$. But here for example those amazing rares are 11$ each. The shinies in ssv are so worthless that they were given out like candy in mystery card packs. But here they are being sold for 4$.

Anon, it's an uncommon, which basically means rare. If you don't know how vending sheets worked, there were 3 uncommons and 3 commons in each "set" of 3 cards, and the cards only came in predetermined, nonrandomized sets, with one uncommon and two commons.

Yup, and that's the only picture too lol. Meanwhile another listing had the card with four pictures showing all the edges both front and back and the holo with flash (to show no scratches) for 40$ with a make an offer option. I offered 20$ and they accepted immediately. Great card

Should I get this graded? No scratches on the holo, only the sleeve. I’m just anxious about sending mail out as I got this card for 60 dollars about a year ago.

No, calling them "rares" is relative, in that they're the rarest cards in the Vending sets. There's no actual rares, so therefore the higher "rarity" is essentially the rares. MtG did the same thing with their ancient ass 8 card boosters (retroactively) where cards that were printed in the uncommon slot are considered to be rares for historical purposes.

I didn't play maic as a kid. I just bought Griffin Canyon and Serra Aviary because I love birds and they're on the reserved list. I copped Canyon when it was 2 bucks, failed to ensure an Aviary before the spike.
